Debruz Mosque of Antakya

Debruz Mosque is located in Hatay Province, Antakya District, Şeyh Ali Neighborhood, on Çankaya Street.

The building does not have a construction inscription. However, its similarity to other local examples dated to the 19th century shows that it is part of the stylistic unity of the 19th century. As an Ottoman-period structure, it is estimated that Debruz Mosque was built in the late 19th century, after the 1872 earthquake.

Debruz Mosque is one of the neighborhood mosques with two aisles, a small courtyard in front, and a hipped roof. The structure is built of ashlar stone and is masonry.

The prayer hall has a longitudinal rectangular form, and the hall is divided into two aisles by a pointed arch placed on embedded piers located on the east and west walls.

Immediately to the right of the mosque, there is a kastal / fountain. The kastal / fountain, shaped by two moldings and a two-lobed arch nested together, has the appearance of a blind niche and consists of a niche and a fountain mirror. In terms of form, this fountain appears as the only example among Antakya fountains.

The survey, damage and intervention analyses, period analysis, restitution, and restoration projects of the building were prepared by Argos Atölye.
